Ahmedabad, Feb 12: Google News Initiative, in partnership with Data LEADS, PDPU and Gujarat Media Club jointly organised a day long workshop for the journalists specifically and media persons and researchers in Ahmedabad.
Held on Saturday, this useful workshop was attended by senior journalists, journalism students from different Journalism and Mass Communication colleges and researchers at AMA.
Google News Initiative, in partnership with Data LEADS, has started a major pan-India data journalism training series called Data Dialogue. The training series will be held in 20 states across India. The series will be useful for editors, reporters, media educators and journalism students. In this full-day workshop in Ahmedabad, participants will receive hands-on training on key data tools and approaches, with a session on global data journalism landscape and code for data journalists as well.
The day long workshop was free with a mandatory registration. Several important web based latest tools which would be extremely useful for journalists were part of the training sessions. There were training sessions on; 1. How to use tools like dataset search and web archives for data sourcing 2. How to use Google Sheets, Tabula and other tools to clean data 3. How to use PinPoint tools to collect and analyse large sets of data 4. How to verify official and unofficial data and 5. How to visualise data using flourish and other tools.
Senior journalists Ajay Umat, Shyam Parekh and PDPU Professor Dr. Pradeep Malik addressed the gathering. Earlier, Nirnay Kapoor (President of Gujarat Media Club) welcomed the media professionals.
Tariq Hashmat and Sanjit Oberoi were the trainers of the workshop.
