Surat, July 05: To celebrate the onset of the auspicious Shravan month, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) organized a vibrant Mehndi Competition for women and girls aged 10 to 40 years at the Tamura Community Hall, near Asha Deep Mata Mandir.
The event was graced by city dignitaries, including Mayor Doshabhai Mawani, Deputy Mayor Dr. Narbhai Patel, Standing Committee Chairman Rajan Patel, Deputy Commissioner Shalini Agrawal (IAS), and ruling party leaders. Cultural Committee Chairperson Sonalben Desai encouraged women to showcase their artistic talents and preserve India’s rich cultural heritage.
Over 700 women enthusiastically took part, presenting intricate mehndi designs. Participants were recognized across junior and senior categories, and several were awarded trophies for their outstanding designs. Assistant Municipal Commissioner Gayatribehn Jariwala applauded their efforts and presented tokens of appreciation.
The next phase of the celebration – a Garba Dance Competition – is scheduled for July 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Performing Arts Centre, L.P. Savani–Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Road, Adajan, Surat. Entry is open only to registered participants. Citizens are invited to attend and cheer on the performers.
