Gandhinagar’s Town Hall came alive on August 22, 2025, with a wave of dreams taking flight. Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU–GKY), more than 350 young men and women from Gujarat’s villages received appointment letters at a grand Job Fair and Alumni Meet. For many, it was not just a piece of paper, but the first step into a world of dignity, self-reliance, and economic independence.

The event, organized by the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company Limited (GLPC) under the Rural Development Department, was graced by Rural Development Minister Raghavji Patel.
Handing over appointment letters, he reminded the gathering that “true national progress lies in making rural youth educated, skilled, and self-reliant. Providing education, skills, and employment opportunities to rural youth and making them self-reliant is the true path of national development,” he said.
Skills That Change Lives
DDU–GKY is more than just a skilling initiative. It is a lifeline for rural youth between 18 and 35 years, especially those from weaker economic backgrounds. The scheme offers far more than technical knowledge—free uniforms, study materials, travel allowances, and even food and accommodation during residential training. It ensures every trainee receives not only skills but also the confidence to step into the workplace.
Special emphasis is given to marginalized groups—Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minorities, women, and persons with disabilities. Training is conducted across more than 40 technical and non-technical sectors, certified by the Sector Skill Council (SSC), ensuring national-level recognition and employability.
Stories of Grit and New Beginnings

Among the many inspiring stories, two stood out at the Gandhinagar gathering.
Jyoti Ranchhodbhai from Patan, who once struggled to find meaningful work, enrolled in a three-month DDU–GKY course. Today, she proudly works as an Accessory Fitter at Honda Motors—a role she never imagined stepping into. Beaming with confidence, Jyoti said her journey proved that rural women can dream big and achieve bigger.
From Tapi district came James Gamit, the son of a poor farmer. With limited means, higher education seemed beyond his family’s reach. But through DDU–GKY’s free training, James found a way forward. Today, he is employed as a Warehouse Assistant at Flipkart, supporting his family and carving out a new life of dignity.
Their parents, present at the ceremony, could not hide their pride. Tears of joy in their eyes reflected the transformation that this initiative has brought into their households.
Even as these stories unfolded, a large number of young students sat in the audience, listening intently. Inspired by the testimonies, many said they saw in Jyoti and James a reflection of their own future dreams.

Inspiration Beyond Training
The youth also drew motivation from celebrated speaker Sanjay Rawal, who urged them to treasure their newly acquired skills. “In today’s world, your real asset is your skill. It is through your skills that you can become self-reliant and contribute to the development of the nation,” he said.
A Growing Impact
So far, over 30,000 young people in Gujarat have undergone training under DDU–GKY, with more than 23,000 already placed in jobs across industries. This transformation is not only uplifting individuals and families but also driving economic growth in villages and rural clusters.

More Than Employment: A New Direction
The Gandhinagar event was not merely about job letters—it was about giving rural youth a fresh identity and belief in themselves. By nurturing talent at the grassroots, DDU–GKY is creating a ripple effect that extends from households to entire communities.
In the words of one participant Radha Patel, the scheme has given them not just employment, but “confidence, new hope, and a new direction in life.”
