The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has inaugurated the Madan Mohanka Centre of Excellence in Case Method of Learning (MMCoECML) at its campus, further strengthening its long-standing legacy in case-based pedagogy. The Centre was inaugurated on August 30, 2025, at the JSW Auditorium.
The ceremony was graced by Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, as the Chief Guest, while Professor Srikant Datar, Dean of the Faculty at Harvard Business School, delivered the keynote address virtually. The event also saw the presence of Madan Mohanka, Chairman of Tega Industries Limited and IIMA alumnus (PGP 1967), Pankaj Patel, Chairperson, IIMA Board of Governors, Professor Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIMA, and Professor Saral Mukherjee, Chairperson of the Centre.
Supported by Mohanka, the Centre will promote faculty training, case writing, research, and the dissemination of case pedagogy through workshops, conferences, and development programmes. It will also provide funding and assistance for case development and research.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Joshi said the case method cultivates leadership qualities by preparing students for decision-making in uncertain environments. Professor Datar emphasised the continued relevance of case-based learning even in the age of AI, calling it “a powerful tool that enhances both student learning and faculty development.”
Sharing his vision, Mohanka described the initiative as an extension of the Guru-Shishya Parampara and urged a stronger focus on experiential learning to make India a nation of job creators by 2047.
IIMA Director, Professor Bharat Bhasker, said the new Centre would further strengthen IIMA’s leadership in case pedagogy, while Patel acknowledged the philanthropic support of alumni in building and nurturing the Institute. Professor Mukherjee added that the Centre would support young academics and doctoral students in designing transformative learning experiences.
Ahead of the inauguration, a conference titled “Case Method in 2025: Taking Stock and Moving Forward” was held, featuring discussions among faculty and representatives from leading management institutes on strengthening the case ecosystem.
The collaboration to establish the Centre was facilitated by the IIMA Endowment Fund (IIMAEF), co-founded by Mohanka, which channels alumni and corporate contributions for the Institute’s growth.
