Major Expansion with New Partners
The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women initiative announced the addition of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) and the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow Enterprise Incubation Centre (IIML EIC) as academic partners. These join IIM Bangalore NSRCEL in delivering business education, mentorship, and networks to women entrepreneurs. The expanded effort targets 1,000 women entrepreneurs in India over the next year, scaling up its overall reach to 10,000 graduates by 2033—aligned with India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.
Goldman Sachs’ Commitment
- Sonjoy Chatterjee, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs India, said:
- “We are doubling our commitment to women entrepreneurs in India. Widening our partnership with India’s premier business schools will drive a powerful combination of education, mentorship, and networks for these entrepreneurs. They will become pillars of India’s growth.”
IIMs on Building Women Entrepreneurs
Professor Bharat Bhasker, Director of IIM Ahmedabad, said:
“This collaboration helps address the critical structural barriers that women entrepreneurs face, particularly in accessing capital and professional networks. Together, we aim to shape a future where women thrive as key contributors to the economy.”
Professor M. P. Gupta, Director of IIM Lucknow, said:
“Promoting female entrepreneurship is about creating a ripple effect that inspires entrepreneurs for generations to come. This initiative will help dismantle barriers and establish a supportive ecosystem where women-led ventures can flourish.”
The Economic Case for Womenomics
Goldman Sachs’ “India Womenomics” research highlights India’s favorable demographics but underlines the need for higher female workforce participation. Indian graduates of the program have on average quadrupled revenues, doubled workforce size, and created over 12,000 new jobs. Nine out of ten also mentor other women entrepreneurs, creating a multiplying effect.
