Dr. Sushila Kella Takes Charge as AMA Ladies Club President
60th Installation Ceremony of AMA Ladies Club Office Bearers Held in Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) Ladies Club celebrated its 60th Installation Ceremony of office bearers for the year 2025-26 with great enthusiasm at the R.M. Fozdar Hall, AMA House.
On this occasion, Dr. Sushila Kella was formally installed as the President of the AMA Ladies Club for 2025-26 on Friday. The ceremony was graced by Dr. Nitin Sumant Shah, Chairman and Managing Director of Heart Foundation and Research Institute, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Mehul Shah, President of GSB IMA, and Dr. Mona Desai, Past National President of Women Doctors’ Wing and AMA, joined as Guests of Honour.


The installation was conducted by Dr. Pragnesh Vachharajani, Past President of AMA, who served as the Installing Officer. The event was marked by a warm and dignified atmosphere, symbolizing the start of a new tenure filled with renewed vision and commitment.
In her inaugural address, Dr. Kella highlighted the significance of women empowerment and outlined her vision for the upcoming year. She announced that the Ladies Club will host a variety of programs focusing on women’s health, education, social awareness, and holistic development.
With over 550 members, AMA Ladies Club continues to be a vibrant platform for women doctors and professionals, fostering leadership, growth, and meaningful community initiatives. Under Dr. Kella’s leadership, the Club looks forward to a year dedicated to empowering women and making a lasting social impact.

The ceremony was attended by several other dignitaries including Dr. Dhiren Mehta, President, AMA, Immediate Past President AMA–LC Mrs. Rajni Maheshwari, Dr. Urvesh Shah, Secretary, AMA, Mrs Ansuya Ladola, Secretary AMA – LC, Dr. Pragna Mehta, and Dr. K. R. Sanghavi among other members of Ahmedabad’s medical fraternity and their families. A cultural programme of “Garbha” dance added a traditional touch to the occasion, complemented by stalls featuring handicrafts and imitation jewellery. The event concluded on a joyous note, with doctors and their families extending warm wishes as Dr. Sushila stepped into her new role.
A Journey of Dedication: Introducing Dr. Sushila Kella, New President of AMA Ladies Club
Dr. Sushila Kella is widely admired for her hard work, gentle nature, and readiness to help others. Her journey reflects a remarkable blend of professional excellence, family values, and community service.

She began her academic career with distinction, completing her SSC and HSC in First Division before enrolling in the MBBS program in 1973, graduating successfully in 1978.
In 1981, after her marriage to Dr. Prakash Mehta, she started her professional journey as a Medical Officer at Sardar Patel Hospital, Maninagar, later moving to Victoria Jubilee Hospital, Kalupur. Her career took a significant turn in 1984 when she joined the Government of India’s P&T Department as a GDMO – Class I, Group A Gazetted Officer. Over 36 years of service, she rose through the ranks with several promotions:
- 1999 – Senior Medical Officer
- 2003 – Chief Medical Officer
- 2008 – CMO-NFSG
- 2014 – Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)
- 2020 – Retired as Senior Administrative Grade Officer, the highest post in Central Government service
She also received advanced medical training at AIIMS, Delhi and GTB Hospital, New Delhi, further strengthening her expertise.
Alongside her professional achievements, Dr. Kella managed her joint family responsibilities with equal dedication. She has been an active member of the AMA Ladies Club for over 10 years, served as Secretary last year, and continues to contribute actively post-retirement. She is also a proud member of both the Ahmedabad Medical Association and Maninagar Medical Association.
Dr Sushla Kella’s inspiring life stands as a testimony to commitment, compassion, and leadership, making her installation as President of the AMA Ladies Club a proud moment for the entire medical fraternity.
