Rear Admiral Sritanu Guru has taken over as the Flag Officer Commanding, Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area (FOGNA), succeeding Rear Admiral Sathish Vasudev, Nao Sena Medal, at an impressive ceremonial parade held at the Naval base in Porbandar on Saturday. With this appointment, Rear Admiral Guru becomes the ninth officer to lead the command.
Distinguished Career of Over 30 Years

A specialist in Anti-Submarine Warfare, Rear Admiral Sritanu Guru brings with him over three decades of operational and leadership experience. He has commanded four Indian Naval ships — INS Astravahini, INS Ajay, INS Kuthar, and INS Mysore — and held significant staff roles at Naval Headquarters including the Directorate of Naval Plans and as Naval Assistant to the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. Before taking over as FOGNA, he served as Commodore (Training) at Headquarters, Southern Naval Command, overseeing Navy-wide training initiatives.
Academic Excellence and Strategic Responsibility
An alumnus of RIMC Dehradun, NDA Pune, JMSDF Staff College Tokyo, NWC Goa, and NDC New Delhi, Rear Admiral Guru is known for his academic and strategic acumen. The Indian Navy accords high strategic importance to Gujarat, given its vast coastline, vital ports, and economic significance. As FOGNA, Rear Admiral Guru will oversee naval operations across Gujarat, Daman, and Diu, working in close coordination with other defence services, central agencies, and state authorities under the Western Naval Command.
