- Valsad, December 26:
With the vision of strengthening both education and nutrition under the motto “Poshan Bhi, Padhai Bhi”, the Gujarat Government is successfully implementing the Chief Minister’s Nutritious Breakfast Scheme across the state. Launched on December 11, 2024, under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the scheme aims to enhance the physical, mental, and intellectual development of schoolchildren by providing them with a daily nutritious breakfast.
In Valsad district, the scheme has witnessed effective and well-organised implementation. A total of 1,11,339 students from 959 schools, ranging from Balvatika to Classes 1 to 8, are receiving the benefits regularly. This includes 11,861 Balvatika students, 59,497 students from Classes 1 to 5, and 39,981 students from Classes 6 to 8.

The breakfast menu includes protein-rich and energy-boosting items such as chickpeas, mixed pulses, chana chaat, and the traditional peanut-based sukhdi, which has become particularly popular among children. The initiative is being implemented as a complementary programme to the Mid-Day Meal Scheme through coordinated efforts of the Education Department, School Management Committees, and local administration.
District Primary Education Officer D. B. Vasava stated that the timely and quality distribution of nutritious food has led to improved concentration, increased classroom participation, and better academic performance among students. Schools have also reported a noticeable rise in student attendance and interest in learning, especially in rural and tribal areas.
Aligned with the government’s commitment towards a Malnutrition-Free Gujarat, the scheme reflects the principles of good governance, sensitivity, and inclusive development. By integrating education, health, and nutrition, the initiative is playing a vital role in ensuring a healthy childhood and a brighter future for the students of Gujarat.
