History to Be Made in the Rann of Kutch: India’s First 50-Vehicle Toyota Hilux Convoy Sets Off on ‘Road to Heaven’ Expedition

In a landmark moment for India’s adventure tourism landscape, a massive convoy of nearly 50 Toyota Hilux vehicles rolled out on Friday morning, marking the country’s first large-scale Hilux expedition across the Rann of Kutch. The expedition, titled the Kutchh Rann Utsav Hilux Expedition, was flagged off at 6:00 AM from Club 07 in Ahmedabad.
The initiative is jointly organized by the Nomad Hilux Group and Radhe Tourism, led by noted tourism professional Naran Gadhvi. Gadhvi, who has been actively involved in promoting Kutch tourism for over eight years, has guided more than 10,000 travelers across the region’s challenging terrains and is known for curating niche experiences for bikers, artists, and photographers.
For the first time in Indian motoring and travel history, the convoy will undertake a 1,500-kilometre journey, bringing together Hilux owners from across the country. Organizers said the objective goes beyond record-setting, focusing instead on fostering community, adventure, and cultural immersion while showcasing the geographical diversity of Kutch.
Speaking on the occasion, Gadhvi said the expedition represents “a confluence of Kutch’s identity and the spirit of adventure.” He added that the journey aims to offer participants a first-hand experience of iconic landscapes such as the White Rann of Kutch and the famed ‘Road to Heaven,’ while promoting Gujarat as a global adventure tourism destination. Emphasizing safety and discipline, he noted that the organizers intend for the expedition to become a long-lasting benchmark in India’s tourism sector.
The route will cover several prominent locations, including the Road to Heaven, the White Rann, and the Bhuj Canyon near Bhuj. Participants will also attend the Kite Festival at Dholavira and take part in a specially curated White Rann safari, echoing the region’s famed slogan, “Kutch Nahi Dekha Toh Kuch Nahi Dekha.”
Given the scale of the convoy, extensive safety and logistics planning has been put in place. The expedition is supported by eight marshal teams, four traffic management units, two technical backup vehicles, and a dedicated medical team on standby throughout the journey. Visits to sensitive border areas, including the Last West Point of India at Koteshwar and Lakhpat, will be conducted under strict protocols to ensure security and compliance.
Organizers believe the expedition will not only create history but also significantly boost adventure tourism and national attention toward the unique landscapes of Kutch.
