The Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Gujarat (IJFA)—a torchbearer of cross-cultural harmony for over five decades—has proudly unveiled its Golden Jubilee Celebrations, titled GOLDFEST 2026, marking 50 illustrious years of people-to-people diplomacy, shared values, and visionary partnership. With an unwavering mission to shape Gujarat as the “Mini-Japan of India,” IJFA’s journey stands as a living testament to friendship nurtured through culture, commerce, and community.
Honouring Enduring Bonds Between Gujarat and Japan
The celebrations were elevated by the distinguished visit of delegations from Shizuoka Prefecture and Hamamatsu City, led by Hiraki Sho, Vice Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture, and Yusuke Nakano, Mayor of Hamamatsu City. Their presence commemorated the Golden Jubilee of IJFA Gujarat, the first anniversary of the Shizuoka–Gujarat Sister State Partnership, the first anniversary of the Hamamatsu–Ahmedabad Sister City Relationship, and the signing of a landmark Economic Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding between the Hamamatsu Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
A Golden Welcome Reception at Ahmedabad Management Association
To mark this historic milestone, IJFA Gujarat hosted a formal Golden Jubilee Welcome Reception at the Ahmedabad Management Association. The evening was graced by an eminent gathering of diplomats, industrial leaders, and cultural patrons, including Ambassador Sujan Chinoy, former Ambassador of India to Japan; Koji Yagi, Consul General of Japan in Mumbai; Kinji Saito, Director, Suzuki Motor Corporation (Japan); Kaoru Saito, Chairman, Hamamatsu Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Masato Oshiki, Managing Executive Officer, Yamaha Corporation; Taketoshi Yamamoto, Managing Director, Yamaha Music India Pvt. Ltd.; and Mukesh Patel, President of IJFA Gujarat and Honorary Consul of Japan in Ahmedabad. The gathering reflected five decades of trust, respect, and shared aspiration between Gujarat and Japan.
O-Cha Utsav: Celebrating Culture Through Tea
Celebrating the first anniversary of the Gujarat–Shizuoka Sister State Partnership, IJFA Gujarat—alongside Shizuoka Prefecture, IJ Kakehashi Services Pvt Ltd, and Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad—hosted the serene and soulful “O-Cha Utsav.” A specially crafted Matcha Cake and an authentic Sencha Green Tea Ceremony symbolized the blending of Shizuoka’s tea heritage with Gujarat’s warmth. Vice Governor Hiraki Sho noted that the initiative encourages incorporating green tea into daily life, nurturing holistic health and mindful living.
PATANG-O-DORI: When Skies Become a Canvas of Friendship
To commemorate the Hamamatsu–Ahmedabad Sister City anniversary, fifteen master kite flyers from Hamamatsu—Japan’s Kite Capital—transformed Gujarat’s skies with PATANG-O-DORI, a mesmerizing Japanese kite-flying spectacle. Massive three-metre Japanese Tako kites, flown with traditional ropes, soared to the rhythm of bugles, dancers in Happy Coats, and the vibrant fusion of Gujarati folk music and dance, creating a poetic celebration titled “Dancing in the Sky with Amdavadi Patang.”
Economic Bridges for Shared Prosperity
Strengthening economic ties, the Hamamatsu Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Economic Cooperation. Chairmen Kaoru Saito and Rajesh Gandhi affirmed that the partnership unites two powerhouse regions—Gujarat’s entrepreneurial dynamism and Hamamatsu’s industrial innovation—into a shared future.
Sangeet Symphony: Music Without Borders
Inspired by Hamamatsu, Asia’s first UNESCO Creative City of Music, IJFA Gujarat, in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation and Yamaha Music India Pvt. Ltd., presented the GOLD FEST CONCERT – Sangeet Symphony (Nihon-no-Ongaku). The evening featured internationally acclaimed Yamaha Brand Ambassadors including Nandini Shankar, violin virtuoso renowned for the Gayaki Ang style; Nise Meruno, pianist and vocalist; Dipanjan Chatterjee, keyboardist; and Shigenobu Namikawa, saxophonist who presented a musical tribute uniting the Indian and Japanese National Anthems. Young talents from Panam Shroff Academy of Music and Khandekars School of Music enriched the evening with fusion melodies, reaffirming music as the universal language of friendship.
Uttarayan 2026: Celebrating Fifty Years Under Shared Skies
The grand culmination arrives on Uttarayan, Wednesday, 14 January 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Shreyas Foundation, where PATANG-O-DORI returns with distinguished dignitaries from India and Japan, celebrating fifty years of shared skies and soaring dreams.
