NID Gandhinagar Launches Incubation and Innovation Centre to Boost Design Entrepreneurship

The National Institute of Design (NID) inaugurated its new Incubation and Innovation Centre at the Gandhinagar campus on Sunday, marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s design-led innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Amit Shah, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and BJP Gujarat State President Jagdish Vishwakarma.

Located at the National Institute of Design Gandhinagar campus, the newly established centre aims to nurture start-ups, promote creative enterprise development, and encourage collaboration between designers, industries, and academic researchers. The facility is expected to provide students, alumni, and young entrepreneurs with a vibrant platform to transform innovative ideas into viable ventures.

Welcoming the dignitaries, NID Governing Council Chairperson Jaiprakash Shivahare highlighted the institute’s commitment to advancing innovation, design excellence, and industry engagement. During their addresses, Amit Shah and Piyush Goyal underlined the growing importance of design and innovation in enhancing India’s global competitiveness and driving sustainable economic growth.

The dignitaries also visited exhibitions showcasing student-led start-ups, innovative design projects, interdisciplinary research initiatives, and collaborative industry work. The exhibitions reflected NID’s growing contribution towards fostering design-driven solutions and entrepreneurship in the country.

The event witnessed the participation of faculty members, students, start-up founders, industry representatives, invited guests, and members of the NID Governing Council, reinforcing the institute’s vision of positioning design as a catalyst for innovation and nation-building.
