Sterling Hospitals Achieves Breakthrough with Robotic Surgery for High-Risk Pancreatic Cancer Patient

Sterling Hospitals, Sindhu Bhavan, Ahmedabad, has successfully treated a 70-year-old woman diagnosed with pancreatic cancer through advanced robotic-assisted surgery, marking another milestone in the hospital’s expertise in managing complex cancer cases. The minimally invasive procedure enabled the patient to recover quickly despite her age and multiple underlying health conditions.

The patient was suffering from pancreatic cancer along with early-stage liver cirrhosis and other comorbidities. Since the disease was detected at an early stage, doctors determined that the tumour could be completely removed. However, her age and existing medical conditions made the surgery particularly challenging.

Following a comprehensive evaluation, a multidisciplinary team at Sterling Hospitals opted for robotic-assisted surgery to minimize surgical trauma while ensuring complete removal of the tumour. The operation was completed successfully without major blood loss or large surgical incisions. The patient was discharged within five days and resumed her normal daily routine within three weeks.

Pancreatic cancer surgery is regarded as one of the most complex procedures in oncology. According to the hospital, robotic surgery offers greater precision, reduced pain, minimal blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery, making it particularly beneficial for elderly patients and those with multiple health conditions.

Dr. Nitin Singhal, Senior Consultant Robotic Onco-surgeon at Sterling Hospitals, said that robotic technology allows surgeons to perform highly complex procedures with enhanced precision while reducing surgical trauma. He added that the successful outcome demonstrates how modern technology combined with expert clinical care can improve recovery and quality of life for cancer patients.

Commenting on the achievement, Santosh Marathe, Managing Director and CEO of Sterling Hospitals, said the hospital remains committed to combining advanced medical technology with compassionate care to deliver better clinical outcomes. He noted that the hospital’s comprehensive cancer care services across Gujarat continue to make advanced treatments accessible for patients with complex medical conditions.
