- Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad strengthens its robotic cardiac surgery programme with two dedicated Centres of Excellence
- Expert cardiac surgery team has successfully performed more than 75 robotic cardiac surgeries using minimally invasive techniques
Ahmedabad
Apollo CVHF Hospital, Ahmedabad, announced the launch of Gujarat’s first dedicated Robotic Cardiac Surgery Unit with the addition of its second Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System. The expansion further strengthens Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad’s robotic cardiac surgery programme and reinforces its position as a leading centre for advanced minimally invasive cardiac care in Western India.
The robotic cardiac surgery programme, led by Dr. Sudhir Adalati, Senior CVTS Surgeon, has successfully completed more than 75 robotic cardiac surgeries, offering patients minimally invasive treatment options for complex heart procedures. With the addition of the second Da Vinci Xi system, Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad now houses two dedicated Centres of Excellence for Robotic Cardiac Surgery, enhancing its capability to deliver advanced surgical care to a larger number of patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sameer Dani, CEO & Director, Apollo CVHF Hospitals and Director – Department of Cardiology, Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad, said: “The launch of Gujarat’s first dedicated Robotic Cardiac Surgery Unit represents an important step in our commitment to making advanced cardiac care more accessible to patients across the region. The addition of a second Da Vinci Xi system enhances our ability to deliver highly precise, minimally invasive cardiac procedures while expanding access to world-class robotic surgery. As cardiovascular disease continues to rise, investing in advanced technology alongside experienced clinical expertise remains central to improving patient outcomes and setting new standards in cardiac care.”
The Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System is designed to assist surgeons in performing complex cardiac procedures with enhanced precision, flexibility and control. The platform offers high-definition three-dimensional visualisation and wristed instruments that allow surgeons to operate through smaller incisions while preserving surrounding tissues. These capabilities help minimise surgical trauma and support improved clinical outcomes across a wide range of cardiac procedures.
Compared with conventional open-heart surgery, robotic-assisted cardiac surgery offers several advantages, including smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, lower risk of infection, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and earlier return to normal daily activities. The minimally invasive approach also contributes to improved patient comfort and reduced post-operative pain.
Commenting on the launch, Dr. Sudhir Adalati, Senior CVTS Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad, said: “Robotic cardiac surgery combines surgical expertise with advanced technology to perform complex heart procedures through a minimally invasive approach. The enhanced visualisation and instrument precision offered by the Da Vinci Xi system allow us to perform intricate procedures with greater accuracy while reducing the physical impact of surgery on patients. Having successfully completed more than 75 robotic cardiac surgeries, we have witnessed consistent clinical benefits in terms of faster recovery, shorter hospital stays and improved patient experience. The addition of a second robotic platform will further strengthen our ability to deliver advanced cardiac care to more patients.”
Also present at the launch was Cdr. Jelson Kavalakkat, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad, who said: “Apollo Hospitals has consistently invested in technologies that improve clinical outcomes while enhancing the patient experience. The addition of our second Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System further strengthens Apollo Hospitals Ahmedabad’s leadership in robotic-assisted surgery, expanding our robotic surgery ecosystem and enhancing our ability to deliver advanced minimally invasive care across specialties. The launch of Gujarat’s first dedicated Robotic Cardiac Surgery Unit reflects our continued commitment to combining world-class technology with specialised clinical expertise, making globally benchmarked care more accessible to patients across the region.”
The launch of the dedicated Robotic Cardiac Surgery Unit marks another milestone in Apollo CVHF Hospital’s journey to advance cardiac care through innovation, technology and clinical excellence. By expanding its robotic cardiac surgery capabilities, the hospital continues to improve access to minimally invasive treatment options while delivering safer procedures, faster recovery and better outcomes for patients across Gujarat and neighbouring states.
