New Delhi
Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, on Monday unveiled a landmark publication titled 75 Years of Indian Democracy: The Indian Election Story in Facts & Figures (1950–2025) and released the inaugural editions of two peer-reviewed quarterly journals aimed at promoting research on India’s democratic and socio-economic development.
The ceremony was held at the Deputy Chairman’s official residence in New Delhi.
Published by Indiastat Publications, the book offers a comprehensive account of India’s electoral journey from 1950 to 2025, documenting the constitutional, institutional and political evolution of the world’s largest democracy. It compiles year-wise data on elections to the offices of the President, Vice-President, Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, supported by statistical tables, timelines, charts and tenure records.
To ensure the publication remains current, the volume also includes an addendum covering major electoral and political developments between January and June 2026, making it one of the most up-to-date reference works on India’s democratic history.
Alongside the book, Shri Harivansh released the first issues of the Indian Journal of Electoral Studies (IJES) and the Indian Journal of Socio-Economic Studies (IJSES). The journals will provide academic platforms for research on electoral systems, democratic institutions, governance, public policy, socio-economic development, sustainable growth and related subjects.
The three publications aim to make credible data and research more accessible to Members of Parliament, policymakers, election administrators, academicians, researchers, students and journalists, thereby strengthening informed public discourse.
Speaking at the event, Shri Harivansh said initiatives that promote rigorous research, documentation and evidence-based scholarship are vital for preserving India’s democratic legacy. He noted that comprehensive publications documenting the country’s electoral evolution serve as valuable reference resources for researchers, policymakers and future generations.
Dr. R. K. Thukral, Director of Indiastat Publications and Editor of the book and both journals, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to providing authentic electoral and socio-economic data for research and policy formulation. He thanked Shri Harivansh for releasing the publications and supporting scholarly initiatives that deepen understanding of India’s democratic institutions and developmental journey.
The release marks an important addition to India’s academic and reference literature, offering authoritative resources for studying the country’s electoral history, governance and socio-economic transformation.
