1. Nepal-Tibet floods: India steps up rescue efforts for stranded nationals
The catastrophic flash floods near the Nepal-China border have triggered an urgent rescue operation, with a large number of Indians among those missing. India has activated emergency helplines and is coordinating with Nepalese authorities to trace and assist its citizens.
2. UP and Bihar put on alert after Nepal flood disaster
The Centre has directed authorities in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to remain vigilant as floodwaters from the Nepal disaster could affect rivers and low-lying areas in the two states. NDRF teams have been deployed and preparedness measures intensified.
3. India-China reach eight-point understanding on border management
India and China have agreed on an eight-point consensus aimed at advancing boundary talks and strengthening peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control. The two sides also agreed to add military communication channels and meeting points.
4. New military hotlines planned between India and China
As part of the latest border understanding, two additional military hotline channels and two new meeting points for senior commanders are to be established in the eastern and middle sectors. The objective is to prevent misunderstandings and manage border situations more effectively.
5. PM Modi to visit Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic; Putin meeting planned
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uzbekistan from August 29–30 and the Kyrgyz Republic from August 31–September 1. A bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek.

1. Nepal-Tibet catastrophe: death toll and missing persons continue to rise
A massive Himalayan flash flood, apparently triggered by a glacial/ice-rock collapse, has devastated areas along the Nepal-China border. Hundreds have died and more than a thousand people remain missing, including foreign nationals. Rescue operations are continuing amid destroyed roads and bridges.
2. Russia threatens possible strikes on British military targets
Moscow has warned that British military assets could become targets if Britain continues supporting Ukraine with long-range missile technology. The warning follows Ukraine’s use of British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles.
3. Russia launches major aerial assault on Ukraine
Russia carried out a large-scale wave of drone and missile attacks against Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, hitting energy, industrial, port and distribution infrastructure. Ukraine said its air defences intercepted a substantial number of incoming weapons.
