Inspired by the noble ideals of seva (selfless service) and compassion, the Swami Vivekananda Netra Mandir Trust (SVNM Trust) is set to establish Gujarat’s first state-of-the-art super-specialty eye hospital, ‘Drashti Dham’, in Supa village, Navsari district, at an estimated cost of ₹450 crore. The initiative aims to bring light into the lives of people suffering from vision disorders while extending affordable and, wherever possible, free eye care to underprivileged communities.

Carrying forward its mission of “Ghar Ghar Drashti”—bringing the gift of sight to every household—the trust also plans to establish a vocational training and rehabilitation centre to help visually impaired individuals lead independent and dignified lives.

‘Ghar Ghar Drashti’: A Mission of Service and Compassion

As part of its efforts to support the ambitious project, a cultural programme titled “Ghar Ghar Drashti – From Vision to Service” featuring renowned artist Mayabhai Ahir will be held at the AUDA Auditorium near Karnavati Club in Ahmedabad. The programme will combine humour and literature to raise awareness about the trust’s vision and community service initiatives.

Adding a spiritual dimension to the mission, revered spiritual leader Morari Bapu will deliver a Shri Ram Katha from December 5 to 13, 2026, at the Swami Vivekananda Netra Mandir campus in Supa village, Navsari. The event is expected to bring together devotees and well-wishers around the values of compassion, service and human welfare.

A ₹450-Crore Healthcare Landmark

Dr. Bhavinbhai Patel, President of SVNM Trust, said that rising eye-related ailments have made advanced and accessible eye care increasingly important. Spread across approximately 16 bighas, Drashti Dham will feature 200 beds, 21 operation theatres and 64 outpatient department rooms.

The hospital will provide specialised treatment for cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disorders and corneal diseases, among other eye conditions. With the capacity to perform approximately 1.2 lakh surgeries annually, the institution aims to serve patients from economically weaker sections through highly affordable or free treatment.

The overarching objective, he said, is to relieve the suffering of patients and help them regain their vision, confidence and quality of life.

Empowering the Visually Impaired Through Skills and Rehabilitation

Dr. Dishantbhai Gandhi, CEO of SVNM Trust, said a dedicated rehabilitation centre would be established at Drashti Dham for people with complete vision loss.

The centre will provide training in essential daily activities, including mobility, navigating surroundings, cooking and using smartphones and computers. Educational and vocational programmes will also help visually impaired individuals develop employable skills, achieve financial independence and live with dignity.

The initiative reflects the belief that service goes beyond medical treatment: it also means enabling people to overcome challenges and participate more fully in society.

Community Initiatives Bringing Hope to Thousands

Niravbhai Patel, a dedicated karmayogi of SVNM Trust, outlined the trust’s ongoing initiatives to improve eye health and support vulnerable communities.

  • Project Drashti: Between 2023 and 2026, the trust organised more than 420 free eye-check-up camps, screened over 51,800 people and conducted 11,531 free surgeries across Surat and rural areas.
  • Drashtimitra Project: More than 40 young women from remote villages are currently receiving healthcare training to help them build self-reliant and dignified futures.
  • SVNM Pragnyachakshu Skill Development and Training Centre: The centre provides counselling, mobility training, industrial training and smartphone-operation skills to people with vision loss.
  • Chashma Rath: This mobile initiative reaches remote villages, providing customised prescription eyeglasses in approximately 10 minutes.
  • Ghar Ghar Drashti Abhiyan: Teams conduct door-to-door eye screenings to identify people who need eye care.
  • Old Eyeglasses Collection Drive: Unused spectacles are collected, fitted with lenses according to updated prescriptions and distributed to people in need.

A Vision Rooted in Humanity and Service

With Drashti Dham, SVNM Trust seeks to combine advanced medical infrastructure with the enduring values of compassion, generosity and service to humanity. By bringing specialised eye care closer to underserved communities and equipping visually impaired people with practical skills, the trust aims to turn its vision of “Ghar Ghar Drashti” into a meaningful reality.

The initiative underscores a simple yet powerful message: restoring sight can transform lives, while empowering those with visual disabilities can open doors to independence, dignity and hope.
