With the aim of ensuring uninterrupted access to medical guidance during the Diwali festival holidays, the Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and the Ahmedabad Family Physicians Association (AFPA) have jointly launched their annual ‘Doctor on Call’ initiative in Ahmedabad.

Continuing a cherished tradition that has been serving the community for more than a decade, the initiative seeks to provide timely medical assistance, primary healthcare advice and emergency guidance to citizens when many regular clinics and healthcare facilities operate on holiday schedules.

The programme is designed to offer reassurance to families celebrating Diwali by ensuring that medical guidance remains accessible whenever the need arises. Through a dedicated team of primary coordinators, citizens can seek initial medical advice and, wherever necessary, receive assistance in connecting with the appropriate medical specialists.

Free Primary Medical Advice During Festive Holidays

One of the key features of the ‘Doctor on Call’ initiative is the provision of free primary medical advice. A designated team of doctors will serve as primary coordinators, responding to calls from citizens and offering immediate medical guidance.

The coordinators will listen to patients’ concerns, provide basic medical advice and guide them on the appropriate course of action. This service will be available without any consultation charges for primary advice, making medical guidance more accessible to people during the festive period.

Specialist Referral and Emergency Guidance

In cases where patients require specialised medical attention or advanced treatment, the primary coordination team will facilitate connections with the relevant medical specialists.

This referral support is intended to help citizens reach the appropriate healthcare professionals without unnecessary delays, particularly during the holiday period when access to their regular doctors may be limited.

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between patients and medical professionals while ensuring that people receive appropriate guidance regarding their healthcare needs.

Dedicated Team of Primary Coordinators

AMA and AFPA have designated the following doctors as primary coordinators for the initiative. Citizens can contact them on the numbers provided below for medical advice and assistance:

  1. Dr. Dhiren Mehta: 9898854158
  2. Dr. Ashvin Shah: 9824038816
  3. Dr. Sunil Patel: 9879225294
  4. Dr. Ramesh Patel: 9426495264
  5. Dr. Jyotindra Mehta: 9825039653
  6. Dr. Parth Patel: 9924119778

The coordinators will serve as the first point of contact for citizens seeking medical guidance during the Diwali holidays and will assist in directing patients to the appropriate specialists whenever required.

Medical Associations Reaffirm Commitment to Community Welfare

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Kalpita Dave, President of the Ahmedabad Medical Association, said that the primary objective was to ensure that families across Ahmedabad could access medical guidance and feel reassured during the festive season.

“Our mission is to bring care, peace of mind, and comfort to families across Ahmedabad so everyone can celebrate a safe and healthy Diwali,” she said.

The initiative reflects the continued commitment of both medical associations towards community welfare and accessible healthcare. By bringing doctors together through a coordinated support system, AMA and AFPA aim to ensure that citizens are not left without medical guidance during the festive holidays.

The initiative is being led by the office-bearers of both associations, including Dr. Kalpita Dave, President, AMA; Dr. Maulik Sheth, Honorary Secretary, AMA; Dr. Ramesh I. Patel, President, AFPA; and Dr. Mehul Shelat, Honorary Secretary, AFPA.

A Decade-Long Tradition of Healthcare Service

The ‘Doctor on Call’ programme has become a longstanding social service tradition of AMA and AFPA, reflecting the medical fraternity’s commitment to extending support beyond regular clinical practice.

By continuing this initiative during Diwali, the two associations seek to combine professional medical expertise with a spirit of public service, ensuring that citizens have access to initial medical guidance and specialist referral assistance when they need it most.

The joint initiative also reinforces the importance of accessible healthcare during festivals, allowing families to celebrate Diwali with greater confidence and peace of mind.
