Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged the armed forces to maintain the highest level of operational readiness, with a strong focus on domain awareness, cyber resilience and information integrity to counter emerging security threats.

Addressing Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel at Air Force Station, Bagdogra, West Bengal, on November 7, 2026, ahead of Diwali, Singh said modern warfare extends beyond conventional border conflicts to include asymmetric warfare, proxy wars, cyberattacks, drone swarms and information operations.

He cautioned that adversaries increasingly exploit vulnerabilities through misleading information and social media campaigns aimed at creating distrust among soldiers and local communities. He emphasised that military personnel must remain vigilant and play an active role in countering such attempts.

Describing Bagdogra as a strategically important location and a vital link in India’s security framework, particularly for the Northeast, the Defence Minister praised the dedication of IAF personnel deployed in the region. He said Air Warriors at Bagdogra serve as a strong shield for the security of the eastern sector.

Singh also stressed the importance of discipline, courage and responsible conduct among defence personnel, urging them to strengthen their engagement with local communities to build mutual trust and counter adversarial propaganda.

Highlighting the Government’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, he appreciated the growing role of Indian start-ups and industries in developing drones, anti-drone systems and advanced military equipment. He also encouraged the armed forces to embrace indigenous technologies and enhance their capabilities in drone operations and cybersecurity.

On the Cabinet-approved ‘Second Tour of Duty’ initiative, Singh described it as a significant Diwali gift for Agniveers, providing them another opportunity to serve the nation. He stated that after completing the two-year engagement period, Agniveers would have an opportunity to be enrolled as regular soldiers, subject to their willingness and fulfilment of selection criteria.

Extending Diwali greetings to the Air Warriors and their families, the Defence Minister acknowledged the sacrifices made by personnel who remain away from their loved ones while protecting the country. He assured them that the nation stands firmly behind their families and their well-being.

Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Bagdogra Air Commodore Manish Sharma and other senior IAF officials were present on the occasion.
