The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry visited Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) on Sunday to gain an in-depth understanding of India’s first operational smart city and maiden International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

Focus on GIFT City’s Unique Model

During the visit, committee members were briefed on GIFT City’s integrated model, which blends world-class infrastructure, sustainable urban planning, and progressive regulatory frameworks. The briefing highlighted how the ecosystem attracts global businesses across finance, technology, and allied sectors.

First-Hand Experience of Smart Infrastructure

The delegation also toured GIFT City’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the district cooling system, automated waste collection system, and underground utility tunnel, which stand as benchmarks in modern urban development.

A committee member remarked, “GIFT City is a testimony to India’s capability in creating globally competitive financial and business districts. It sets new standards in sustainability, efficiency, and governance.”

India’s Maiden IFSC and CBD

Positioned as a leading Central Business District (CBD), GIFT City provides significant advantages such as reduced operational costs, favourable tax regimes, and a vibrant work-life environment. These factors have made it a preferred destination for global and domestic companies in BFSI, IT/ITeS, fintech, international education, and other services sectors.

Another member added, “What makes GIFT City unique is not just its infrastructure, but the holistic ecosystem it provides—combining business, residential, and social spaces in one integrated model.”
