PM Modi Launches ₹34,200 Crore Development Works at ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ in Bhavnagar, Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹34,200 crore at the landmark ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, marking a significant boost to India’s maritime and infrastructure growth.
The event was attended by key leaders including Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat; C.R. Patil, Union Minister of Jal Shakti; Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways; Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour & Employment; Shantanu Thakur, MoS for Ports, Shipping & Waterways; T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Secretary (PSW); Nilabhra Dasgupta, IRS, Dy. Chairman (DPA); Rahul Modi, Member (National Shipping Board), along with senior officials and dignitaries.
Major Announcements for Deendayal Port Authority
As part of the ceremony, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla projects worth ₹2,400 crore, including:
- Development of a Multi-Purpose Cargo Berth at Tuna-Tekra,
- Establishment of a Green Bio-Methanol Plant,
- Installation of a Static Anti-Drone Technology System for enhanced surveillance and security,
- Expansion of road infrastructure, construction of oil jetties, and other civil works.
On the sidelines, Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman, DPA, briefed the Prime Minister about the upcoming Mega Port Terminal at Kandla, featuring a 6 km waterfront with an additional 135+ MMTPA cargo handling capacity, set to make Kandla one of the largest maritime hubs globally.

The Bhavnagar event was also live-streamed at the Administrative Office Building, Gandhidham, where it was attended by Vinodbhai Chavda, MP (Kutch); Maltiben Maheshwari, MLA (Gandhidham); senior port officials, and a large gathering of employees.
Vision for Maritime India
The Prime Minister underlined that these projects are aligned with the government’s vision of “Transforming Maritime Sector” by combining scale with sustainability and integrating green energy with port modernization. “These initiatives will act as a catalyst in realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he said.
