The CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) hosted the third edition of the CEPT Conference on Civil Engineering in India, convening the country’s leading engineers, policymakers, and project experts to reflect on the forces driving India’s most ambitious infrastructure achievements.

Centred on the theme ‘Major Infrastructure Projects – A Key Driver of India’s Economic Transformation’, the conference examined what truly enables India to deliver complex projects—from governance and financing to engineering innovation and institutional alignment.

The opening session featured Dr. Malay Mahadevia, Director, Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd., who shared the evolution of Mundra Port from marshland to India’s largest port, crediting clarity of purpose, flexibility, and an entrepreneurial mindset as key drivers.
Mr. Satyaki Raghunath, former COO of Bengaluru Airport, highlighted the airport’s expansion strategy, focus on seamless passenger movement, sustainability through solar and wind adoption, and the need to balance time, cost, quality, and stakeholder expectations.

A thematic panel on connected infrastructure explored insights from metro rail and airport planning. Ramana Rachaprolu of MMRCL discussed the complexities of Mumbai Metro Line 3—rehabilitation of dense settlements, heritage clearances, geotechnical challenges, and the importance of institutional coordination.
Charudutt Deshmukh of Navi Mumbai International Airport outlined the airport’s design principles, digital passenger experiences, commitment to sustainable aviation fuel, and its potential to generate over 100,000 jobs.

The session on complex engineering challenges highlighted the Kishanganga Hydroelectric Project’s geopolitical and logistical hurdles, presented by  Iftikhar Drabu, and the extreme high-altitude engineering of the Zoji La Tunnel, detailed by  Love Anandjiwala.
Mohan Ramesh of L&T showcased breakthroughs in India’s High-Speed Rail—advanced geotechnical methods, full-span girders, seismic design, and sustainability-led construction practices.

Architect Dr. Bimal Patel reflected on the rapid and complex redevelopment of Central Vista, emphasizing coordinated decision-making, stakeholder management, and rigorous design processes.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Prof. Aanal Shah, Dean, Faculty of Technology, noted the conference’s role in strengthening intellectual and professional foundations for India’s next phase of infrastructure growth.

Supported by GTU and GICEA, and organized by CEPT University and CRDF, the conference continues to serve as a leading platform for dialogue, collaboration, and capacity-building in civil engineering.
