The Ahmedabad Polo Tournament commenced on Friday with a spectacular opening ceremony, setting the stage for three days of high-calibre polo and immersive spectator experiences. Organised by the Gujarat Polo Club and powered by the Adani Group, the event is the largest polo tournament ever hosted in Gujarat, both in scale and presentation.

Held at the Gujarat Polo Club Ground in Shela, the opening ceremony featured a high-energy performance by a large dance ensemble, followed by a special appearance by renowned acrobatic dance crew V Unbeatable. The tournament trophy was unveiled by actor and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, alongside team owners, formally signalling the start of the competition.

The evening’s production values and scale marked a first for polo in Ahmedabad, drawing a strong turnout and an enthusiastic response from spectators.

On the field, the opening day delivered three exciting encounters. Jindal Panthers took on Mayfair Polo in the first match, followed by NAV Unicorns facing Pune Warriors. The day concluded with KP Kings clashing with Adani Archers. Equestrian sports demonstrations held between matches added to the traditional sporting atmosphere and enhanced the overall experience.

Speaking at the event, Arpan Gupta, Promoter of Gujarat Polo Club, said the tournament aimed to introduce polo to Gujarat in an entirely new format. “The response to the opening day has been extremely encouraging and reinforces our belief that Ahmedabad is ready to embrace polo as a major sporting and cultural event,” he said.

Sanjay Paladia, Promoter of Gujarat Polo Club, highlighted the ambition behind the initiative. “What we witnessed today is unprecedented for polo in Gujarat. Our focus has been on delivering a world-class tournament that honours the sport’s heritage while presenting it at a scale that resonates with modern audiences,” he said.

More than 30 polo players are participating in the tournament, with at least 25 having competed at the international level. The quality of play on the opening day set the tone for intense and competitive action over the remaining matches.

Beyond the sport, the Ahmedabad Polo Tournament has been curated as a complete lifestyle and family experience, featuring heritage installations, equine exhibitions, dedicated family zones and live entertainment across the venue. Musical performances will continue over the next two days, with the tournament set to conclude with a grand closing ceremony featuring synchronised fireworks, laser displays and an awards presentation.

The tournament seeks to revive polo—often referred to as the “king of games”—in Gujarat and establish Ahmedabad as the home of a landmark annual sporting tradition that bridges heritage, culture and competitive sport.
