On the occasion of World Kidney Day, Sterling Hospitals Ahmedabad organized an awareness initiative emphasizing the importance of kidney health, preventive care, and early diagnosis. Medical experts highlighted that kidney diseases often develop silently and may go unnoticed until they reach advanced stages, making timely screening and lifestyle management crucial.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sonal Dalal, Director – Nephrology, explained that kidney disorders frequently remain undetected because early symptoms are minimal or absent. She noted that many patients only become aware of the problem once serious complications arise.

“Kidney health is often overlooked because the symptoms are subtle or absent until the disease has already advanced. Prevention and regular monitoring are therefore extremely important. By educating people about early warning signs, encouraging routine health check-ups, and proactively managing conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, we can significantly reduce risks and improve long-term outcomes. Our focus is not just to treat kidney disease but to prevent it before it affects lives,” she said.

The hospital’s specialists also highlighted the critical functions performed by kidneys, including filtering waste from the body, maintaining fluid balance, and regulating essential minerals. Since many kidney disorders remain asymptomatic in their early stages, experts stressed that awareness and regular screening are key to effective kidney care.

Santosh Marathe, MD & CEO of Sterling Hospitals, stated that the hospital continues to strengthen its nephrology services through advanced treatment facilities and specialized medical expertise. “Sterling Hospitals provides acute dialysis care management, a multidisciplinary team of senior specialists, and a comprehensive transplant program. We are continuously investing in advanced nephrology care, modern technology, and skilled clinical teams to ensure patients receive world-class treatment and holistic support,” he said.

Doctors also recommended routine tests such as blood creatinine measurement, urine analysis, and estimation of Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR)—particularly for individuals with diabetes, hypertension, or a family history of kidney disease. Early detection through these tests enables timely treatment and helps reduce complications.

Raman Bhaskar, Zonal Director, Sterling Hospitals Ahmedabad, added that effective kidney care requires both timely diagnosis and specialized medical support. “At Sterling Hospitals, we have developed a comprehensive kidney care ecosystem—from advanced diagnostics and dialysis facilities to successful kidney transplant programs. Our goal is to ensure patients receive the right treatment at the right time with the support of experienced specialists and world-class infrastructure,” he said.

The awareness initiative also featured inspiring patient stories. A dialysis patient spoke about the discipline and resilience required to manage regular treatments while maintaining a normal lifestyle. A kidney transplant recipient shared how the surgery brought renewed hope and improved quality of life. Meanwhile, a kidney donor described the motivation behind donating an organ to save another person’s life, highlighting the life-changing impact of organ donation.

Through continuous awareness campaigns, patient education programs, and preventive healthcare initiatives, Sterling Hospitals Ahmedabad aims to encourage people to take proactive steps toward kidney health and make informed choices that reduce the risk of kidney-related complications.
