In a significant push towards building a skilled semiconductor workforce, Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has announced that it will sponsor 40 students every year for the India Semiconductor Workforce Development Program (ISWDP), conducted by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
The ISWDP, running since 2025, is organized by IISc in collaboration with global technology leaders Synopsys and Samsung Electronics. The program is aimed at equipping engineering students with specialized skills required in the semiconductor industry.
This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s ambitious semiconductor push under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which is driving the establishment of fabrication units, assembly plants, and design hubs across the country. Gujarat has emerged as a key hub in this ecosystem, with major developments underway in Sanand and Dholera.
To contribute to this national effort and address the rising demand for skilled talent, GTU will fully sponsor selected students from various engineering disciplines. The university will bear the training cost of approximately ₹20,000 per student, along with 18% GST.
The move underscores GTU’s commitment to strengthening industry-academia collaboration and preparing students to tap into emerging opportunities in India’s fast-growing semiconductor sector.
