After the successful debut edition last year, Anant National University hosted the second edition of Open House 2026 on May 23 and 24 at its Ahmedabad campus, welcoming aspiring designers and parents from over 40 cities across India for an immersive two-day exploration of design education.
The initiative aimed to redefine the common perception of design as merely aesthetics or decoration, presenting it instead as a discipline grounded in critical thinking, innovation, systems understanding and problem-solving. Through interactive sessions and direct exposure to the university’s academic environment, participants discovered how design can be used to address contemporary social, environmental and technological challenges.
Nearly 400 students and parents attended the event, which featured hands-on workshops conducted by more than 30 faculty members, studio walkthroughs and engaging interactions with mentors and students. Participants experienced the process of transforming ideas into practical prototypes and real-world solutions.
The Open House also highlighted Anant’s future-oriented and interdisciplinary academic framework that combines design with sustainability, technology, liberal arts and research. Specially curated discussions offered students deeper insights into emerging career opportunities and the expanding scope of design education.
Parents actively participated throughout the programme, gaining a better understanding of the relevance, career potential and evolving landscape of the design field. The event facilitated meaningful conversations that helped families make informed academic choices while broadening awareness about the diverse possibilities within the discipline.
Adding a personal dimension to the experience, Anant alumni shared their academic and professional journeys with participants. They spoke about how the university’s emphasis on design thinking equipped them to pursue varied career paths, including entrepreneurship, industry placements and higher education at globally recognised institutions.
A vibrant drum circle session added energy and celebration to the campus atmosphere, fostering a sense of creativity, collaboration and community among participants, students and faculty.
