Jain Shravak Nipeksh Sheth is set to conclude a rare 180-day fasting penance on September 20 at Pankaj Jain Sangh in Bhattha, Paldi, Ahmedabad. The Parna, or breaking of the fast, will take place in the presence of Gacchadhipati Param Pujya Acharya Shri Narratnasurishwarji Maharaja.

Sheth began the rigorous penance on March 24, 2026, observing the 180-day fast with only boiled water. Members of the Jain community, including monks and nuns, Shravaks and Shravikas, family members and community leaders, are expected to attend the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Shri Narratnasurishwarji Maharaja said the penance reflected the Jain traditions of austerity, renunciation and self-restraint. He described fasting as a spiritual practice aimed at inner purification and said Sheth’s long penance could serve as an inspiration for the Jain community and society at large.

The Acharya also emphasised the importance of proper dietary habits and self-restraint. He said that disciplined fasting, when undertaken correctly, can contribute to spiritual development and encouraged the younger generation to embrace values of good conduct and spirituality.

Recalling his experience, Nipeksh Sheth said that his faith in Jainism, along with the guidance of his parents and the blessings of his Guru, helped him complete the challenging penance. He said the early days brought physical difficulties, but his faith, chanting of the Navkar Mantra and family support helped him continue.
