National News Highlights
1. Monsoon begins retreat; 43% of India remains rain-deficient
The southwest monsoon has started withdrawing from parts of west Rajasthan, while India’s cumulative rainfall remains 15% below normal. The IMD is also tracking a developing low-pressure system that could bring heavy rain to several eastern and southern states next week.
2. Asian Games 2026 open in Nagoya
The 20th Asian Games officially opened in Nagoya, Japan, with India among the 45 participating nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to the Indian contingent.
3. India changes Asian Games male flagbearer
Kabaddi player Pawan Sehrawat replaced shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor as India’s male flagbearer after Toor’s ceremonial kit failed to arrive in time. Manu Bhaker remained the female flagbearer.
4. Four more cheetah cubs born at Kuno
Project Cheetah recorded another milestone with the birth of four cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The latest births take India’s cheetah population to 56, including 36 born in India.

6. New passport validity rules for children
Revised provisions provide that passports issued to children below 15 years will be valid for five years or until the child turns 18, whichever comes earlier.
7. 34,000 rural youth to receive skill training
The Rural Development Ministry said training for nearly 34,000 rural youth under DDU-GKY 2.0 will begin next month across most states and Union Territories.
8. Government reviews air-pollution measures in NCR
Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed measures to improve air quality in eight NCR-linked districts, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Hapur.
9. JPC begins examination of FCRA Amendment Bill
The Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, held its first meeting in New Delhi and was briefed by the Home Ministry on the proposed legislation.
10. New CBFC film-certification guidelines notified
The Information & Broadcasting Ministry has notified revised guidelines for film certification by the Central Board of Film Certification, updating the framework that had largely been based on the detailed 1991 guidelines.

1. US, Denmark and Greenland reach security agreement
The United States, Denmark and Greenland reached an agreement concerning Greenland’s security, while Denmark and Greenland stressed that the arrangement would not compromise Greenland’s sovereignty.
2. Air-raid alert issued in Riyadh
Saudi Arabia issued an emergency warning over a hostile aerial threat around Riyadh. Booms were heard and smoke was later seen near King Khalid International Airport; authorities subsequently issued an all-clear.
3. Russian attacks reported across Ukraine
Ukraine reported fresh Russian missile and drone attacks, with Kyiv among the areas targeted. European reports said at least 11 people were killed and dozens injured over a 24-hour period.
4. UN highlights sexual violence in Ukraine conflict
The United Nations has described a continuing pattern of conflict-related sexual violence in Ukraine and said Russia was added in May to the UN Secretary-General’s list of parties credibly suspected of such violations.
5. Asian Games open in Japan amid logistical concerns
The Nagoya Asian Games opened with athletes from 45 nations and regions. The event features 43 sports, while organisers have faced complaints concerning accommodation, transport and registration arrangements.
