CEPT University has unveiled its CEPT Foundation Program (CFP) Field Studio Exhibition, featuring an impressive collection of projects created by first-year undergraduate students.
Open to visitors on the university campus until March 29, 2026, the exhibition presents work developed during an immersive field studio in Kerala. Nearly 300 students travelled to Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram, where they spent seven days conducting on-ground exploration, followed by a week of on-campus synthesis. Through this process, students examined the cities’ architecture, culture, ecology, and everyday life, translating their insights into a diverse range of analytical and creative outputs.

What stands out in the exhibition is the depth and maturity of the work. Despite being at the start of their academic journey, students have produced projects that reflect professional-level design thinking. The showcase includes detailed spatial and environmental studies alongside narrative-driven installations and interactive formats such as board games, books, and short films.
The projects cover a wide spectrum of themes—from documenting a “pen hospital” in Thrissur to exploring the ecological and cultural significance of Kaavu temples (sacred groves). Other works analyse passive cooling techniques in heritage buildings like the Napier Museum and Kuthira Malika Palace, while some interpret political expression through installations mapping street-side sloganeering in Thiruvananthapuram.

These works highlight not only strong observational skills but also the ability to interpret and synthesize complex social, cultural, and environmental contexts—an outcome of the hands-on pedagogy embedded in CEPT’s Foundation Program.
Speaking about the exhibition, Prof. Samir Shah, Dean of the CEPT Foundation Program, said, “The CEPT Foundation Program introduces students, fresh out of school, to the discipline, rigour, and iterative processes of design education. Through structured modules, they develop core skills that enable them to engage with increasingly complex real-world contexts. The field studio is a vital part of this journey, extending learning beyond the classroom into lived environments.”
At CEPT University, all undergraduate students across Architecture, Planning, Design, and Technology begin with the Foundation Program, creating a shared learning environment that encourages interdisciplinary thinking. The Field Studio, in particular, plays a transformative role by exposing students to unfamiliar settings, local communities, and lived realities—helping them look beyond the obvious.
Bringing together the work of nearly 300 students, the CFP Field Studio Exhibition offers an engaging and immersive experience for visitors, including design enthusiasts, prospective students, and anyone interested in how young minds interpret the complexities of urban and cultural landscapes.
