NID Ahmedabad Hosts Maria Andreu for Insightful Talk on Ergonomics and Human-Centered Design

National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad recently hosted an engaging session under its Baatein Talk Series, featuring Maria Andreu, Seating Lady at Herman Miller and Manager at OFIVAL, along with members of the MillerKnoll India team.

The interactive session focused on the ergonomics of seating, offering students a deeper understanding of how the human body interacts with furniture. Through real-world examples, Andreu highlighted the importance of posture, movement, and long-term comfort, encouraging students to view seating as more than just a functional object — but as a dynamic interface between the body, mind, and environment.

Addressing design students, she emphasized the need for research-driven, human-centered design that prioritizes well-being alongside aesthetics and functionality. The discussion underscored the responsibility of designers to create solutions that support physical health and enhance everyday user experiences.
