NID Ahmedabad Strengthens Ties with France During Ambassador’s Visit France and NID Ahmedabad Discuss Expanding Design and Cultural Partnerships

The National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, welcomed a high-level French delegation led by H.E. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India, on June 2, 2026, reaffirming the long-standing ties between the premier design institution and France.
The delegation included Patrick Leverino, Consul General of France in Mumbai; Grégor Trumel, Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs and Country Director of the French Institute in India; Emmanuel Bottiau, Director of Alliance Française Ahmedabad; and Aura Burzynski, Cultural Attaché (West India) at the Consulate General of France in Mumbai.
During their visit, the dignitaries toured key facilities across the NID Ahmedabad campus to gain insights into the institute’s academic, research and design-led initiatives. The visit was followed by a meeting with Dr. Ashok Mondal, Director, NID, along with senior officials of the institute.
The NID team presented an overview of the institute’s activities, achievements and international collaborations. Discussions focused on the strong and enduring relationship between NID and French institutions, which has contributed significantly to design education and cultural exchange over the years.
The meeting also explored strategic opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between NID and French partners, particularly in the fields of craft, design innovation, cultural preservation and creative industries. Both sides expressed interest in expanding collaborative initiatives that foster knowledge exchange, student engagement and cross-cultural partnerships.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of NID and France to promoting design excellence, cultural dialogue and innovation-driven collaboration for the future.
