Cong LS MPs to hold key strategy meet before Monsoon Session

Congress Lok Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs) will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) office in Parliament, just ahead of the Monsoon Session. During this meeting, the parliamentarians will be briefed on the decisions made during the Opposition floor leaders’ meeting, as Congress finalises its strategy for the session. The Monsoon Session is set to commence on Monday and will run until August 13, featuring a total of 19 sittings over the four-week period.

In related news, Congress MP Manickam Tagore has submitted an Adjournment Motion Notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss the issue of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak. He has requested that the House suspend regular business to debate critical matters, including question paper leaks, the failure of the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the continued tenure of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan “without any accountability.”

Tagore aims to address the “failure of the Union Government to respond to the widespread NEET paper leaks, the lack of registration of cases or arrests against those responsible, and the ongoing presence of the Union Minister of Education in office despite his moral and administrative responsibilities, as well as the unchecked, unregulated coaching industry contributing to student suicides in Tamil Nadu.” Additionally, Congress MP Manish Tewari has submitted an Adjournment Motion Notice in the Lok Sabha to suspend Question Hour, Zero Hour, and other business to discuss the parameters of a new anti-defection law.

The motion specifically addresses curbing mass defections motivated by opportunism lacking ideological or policy grounds, while preserving space for genuine dissent inside and outside Parliament. Earlier on Sunday, an all-party meeting was held at the Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe. The government requested collaboration from all political parties to guarantee the effective operation of both Houses of Parliament. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Lok Sabha met on Sunday under the chairpersonship of Speaker Om Birla, who sought suggestions from all political parties on issues of public interest. During the meeting, the Speaker invited representatives from all political parties in the Lok Sabha to put forward their views on matters they want to be included in the list of business to be transacted during the session.

Members representing the government as well as various political parties exchanged views on the legislative and other business proposed to be taken up during the session. The meeting participants suggested several matters of public importance and national concern for discussion during the session. The Speaker emphasised the importance of constructive deliberations, meaningful participation and adherence to the highest parliamentary traditions. He appealed to all parties to extend their full cooperation to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the proceedings, so that issues concerning the people can be discussed comprehensively and productively. The Committee took note of the suggestions made by members.

The scheduling of discussions and allocation of time for various items of business will be finalised in accordance with the established parliamentary procedures and in consultation with the government and leaders of political parties, said an official statement. The Speaker expressed confidence that all members would work collectively to ensure a productive and dignified Monsoon Session in the larger public interest.
