Aravalli’s Janmejay Patel and Ahmedabad’s Pratha Pawar emerged the biggest stars of the 3rd Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, winning double crowns on the concluding day at the JMC Sports Complex in Jamnagar on Sunday.
Organised by the Jamnagar District Table Tennis Association under the aegis of the Gujarat State Table Tennis Association, the three-day tournament (July 31-August 2) was sponsored by Shree Haridas Jeevandas Lal Charitable Trust.
Eighth seed Janmejay swept past seventh seed and district mate Dhyey Jani 4-0 to clinch the men’s singles title before the top seed added the U-19 boys’ crown with another commanding 4-0 win over Ahmedabad’s unseeded Arya Kataria, completing a hat-trick of U-19 state ranking titles this season.
In a gripping all-Ahmedabad women’s final, second seed Pratha rallied from two games down to edge fourth seed and citymate Mouboni Chatterjee 4-3. The top seed then completed her double by blanking third seed Riya Jayswal of Bhavnagar 4-0 in the U-19 girls’ final.
Rajkot’s Dev Bhatt also enjoyed a memorable outing, claiming the U-17 and U-15 boys’ titles. The 13th seed stunned top seed Dwij Bhalodia in the semifinals before defeating sixth seed Ansh Khamar 3-0 in the U-17 final. Seeded third in the U-15 event, Dev then overcame ninth seed Henil Langalia of Bhavnagar by an identical margin to complete his double.
Third seed Charmy Trivedi of Bhavnagar upset top seed Mouboni Chatterjee 3-1 to win the U-17 girls’ title, while top seed Daniya Godil of Surat defeated second seed Khanak Shah of Ahmedabad 3-1 to retain her dominance in the U-15 girls’ category.
Second seed Naksh Patel of Ahmedabad upset top seed Rehansh Singhvi of Kachchh 3-2 to win the U-13 boys’ title, while top seed Dhimahi Kabrawala of Surat comfortably defeated third seed Misha Lakhani of Ahmedabad 3-0 in the U-13 girls’ final.
Top seed Rehansh shrugged off the disappointment of the U-13 final defeat to clinch the U-11 boys’ title with a convincing 3-0 victory over second seed Panav Kella of Surat. In the girls’ section, top seed Prisha Parekh defeated second seed Saanvi Chaudhary of Vadodara 3-0 to emerge champion.
Top seed Sayansh Christi of Ahmedabad edged second seed Aahaan Goyal of Surat 3-2 to win the U-9 boys’ title, while fourth seed Suhani Handa of Ahmedabad fought back strongly to beat seventh seed and citymate Anayra Maniyar 3-2 and lift the U-9 girls’ crown.
