The Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) 2026 generated an estimated ₹663.23 crore in socio-economic and health impact, highlighting its growing influence on the economy, fitness, communities and sustainability.

The report, unveiled by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Smt. Sunetra Ajit Pawar, showed that the marathon generated ₹602.54 crore in economic impact, with ₹277.58 crore spent on health, nutrition and training and ₹120.76 crore on food, accommodation and local travel.

The event is also contributing to the growth of Mumbai and Maharashtra’s wider running and wellness economy, driving demand across sportswear, fitness, nutrition, technology, travel and hospitality. The report noted that 64% of businesses reported increased revenues and 67% reported higher customer footfall during the marathon period.

The 2026 edition attracted 70,065 participants from 37 states and union territories and 46 countries, including 18,862 women. The growing participation of women, first-time runners and participants from across India reflects the marathon’s expanding reach and inclusive character.

The health impact was equally significant, with 67% of participants taking up running for health, 81% prioritising nutritious meals and 75% training at least three days a week. The report also found that 94% valued mental preparation and 98% considered strength training important.

Beyond sport and fitness, TMM has developed into a major platform for philanthropy. The 2026 edition raised ₹60.68 crore through 11,632 fundraisers, with more than 300 NGOs benefiting from the initiative.

Its sustainability efforts included processing 100% of the 21.8 tonnes of waste generated during the race, while the Green Bib initiative supported the planting and commitment of more than 18,000 trees.

The report underlines how the Tata Mumbai Marathon has evolved over 21 years from a sporting event into a movement creating measurable economic, health, social and environmental impact well beyond race day.
