National News Highlights
1. India wins first gold at Asian Games
India’s women’s cricket team won the country’s first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the T20 final. Smriti Mandhana scored 79 and India posted 216/3.
2. Mirabai Chanu wins historic Asian Games silver
Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured silver in the women’s 49kg category, giving India its first Asian Games weightlifting medal in 28 years. India also collected medals in shooting and soft tennis.
3. Deep depression approaches Andhra-Odisha coast
The IMD issued warnings as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moved towards the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast. Several districts were placed under heavy-rain alerts, with winds potentially reaching around 75 kmph.
